A tall oak mill that grinds pepper properly — a hardened steel burr does the cutting, and a turn of the top adjusts it from a coarse crack for a steak down to a fine dust for a sauce. At 20 cm it holds a good fill of peppercorns, so it isn't forever asking to be topped up.
Turned from European oak, finished with the same re-oilable hardwax oil as the boards, over a steel grinding mechanism built to keep its edge for years. The wood warms in the hand where a metal mill stays cold.
It's made for hard peppercorns and coarse dry salt crystals. Don't load it with soft flaky sea salt or a moist spice blend — those clog a burr mill rather than feeding through it.
