Salt Cellar

A weighted marble cellar to keep flaky salt by the stove, with a swivel lid that turns open for a pinch and back over to keep the damp out between uses. The wide mouth takes a whole hand, so you can grab a proper three-finger pinch the way you salt as you cook.

Cut from honed marble and sealed inside where it holds the salt, so it resists the staining and pitting that raw stone would take from constant contact. The mass keeps it planted on the counter when you dip in one-handed.

Salt draws moisture, and in a steamy kitchen even a sealed cellar left open will let flakes clump a little. Swivel the lid shut after each use and keep it back from the kettle's steam.
